When I look at a place like Iran, you certainly don't do regime change
from the belly of a ship, right, or from an aircraft.
It's just not possible to do that.
Donald Trump has taken one of the biggest gambles of his presidency.
He started a war in Iran that could remake the Middle East.
Mr. Trump chose to start this conflict.
Now the question is, what could make him stop it, if it's even his choice at all?
I came to Washington to meet Elisa Slotkin, a senator for Michigan.
She brings a very particular perspective to this moment.
She's a centrist Democrat who represents a state which voted for Mr. Trump.
She's also a former Middle East analyst at the CIA who served three tours in Iraq.
How does she see the domestic and global forces that might rein in the president?
Senator Alyssa Slokin, welcome to Inside Geopolitics.
Thanks for having me.
So, the world.
Oil prices, they're on a roller coaster.
The Gulf Arab states are under bombardment.
The Iranian regime sounds more hardline than ever.
How bad could this crisis get?
Well, look, I think we're already, as you say, we're already seeing the economic side of it.
