  • Hi there and welcome to Advanced English with Harry and in this particular Business

  • English podcast we're going to take a walk through how to give constructive feedback in English.

  • I'm going to help you to get a better understanding

  • of the English language without overly complicating it or in fact without confusing you.

  • And as I indicated we're looking at feedback, how to provide constructive feedback.

  • And the important word here is constructive, where something is helpful, informative and occasionally honest.

  • Yeah.

  • So you might think this is mostly one way, like downwards from a manager to you or to a subordinate.

  • But feedback can work both ways.

  • So you can provide feedback to your peer group, those at the same level or people reporting to you.

  • Or indeed, feedback can be given from you upwards to a manager if it's requested.

  • OK, so we're not really just talking about an employee's performance review where there would be feedback.

  • That's certainly one type, but there are many others.

  • Now, I believe feedback should always be treated like a sandwich.

  • OK, so you have the two slices of bread on the outside of the sandwich.

  • And this is when you give your positive comments.

  • And anything negative is your filling in the middle.

  • And of course, it doesn't always have to be bad.

  • Your feedback can be helpful and critical without being overly critical,

  • but something that is honest and will help the person that you're talking to.
