Iran and the US have agreed a deal that would end their war, with the Strait of Hormuz shipping channel set to reopen in due course. The agreement is expected to be formalised on Friday.   • It was with these words in a social media post last night the President Trump announced

  • that a deal had been struck between the United States and Iran after three months of hostilities.

  • A memorandum of understanding it has been agreed, a framework that's due to be signed in Geneva later this week.

  • And countries of the Gulf and Europe have welcomed the deal,

  • but already there's been a few negative comments from some political figures in Israel, on that in a moment.

  • But first, I've been speaking to David Sanger.

  • He's the White House and national security correspondent for the New York Times.
