  • Hi there, this is Harry and welcome back to my podcast on business English.

  • And today we're going to talk again about problems that you might have in the workplace.

  • And today's podcast is about how to ask your manager for help without sounding

  • that you're incapable or unprofessional and ways that you can ask for help.

  • So it's not just a...

  • Casual question where you ask a colleague for some help but this is your boss your reporting line so in addition

  • to you looking for help you really don't want to sound unprofessional and you want to be asking for assistance

  • but sound clear and understand what the problem is so it's really all about the words that you use the phrases

  • and how you put them across So we've got 12 particular points and scenarios, situations,

  • and I'll give you examples as we go through this.

  • So it's business English, and I'll cover this and emphasise what the objectives are.

  • And at all times, what we're trying to do is to achieve a level of professionalism in your question

  • and avoid sounding as if you're out of your depth and cannot do the job.

  • OK, so let's get on.

  • Let's set the scene.

  • So you've been given, let's say, a job or a project

  • to do and you've made a start and you have come to one particular

  • part that you see as a little bump or a little difficulty and you're not able to get past it.

  • So it might be to do with interpretation.

  • It might be the first time that you've seen an issue like this.
