A top meeting in China has described the next five years as a critical period for socialist modernization.
General Secretary Xi Jinping chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
It reviewed a draft outline of the country's 15th five-year plan and discussed a draft government work report that will be submitted to the annual session of the national legislature for review.
The meeting said that economic development should remain the government's central task over the next five years.
It called for more proactive and effective policies to expand domestic demand and optimize supply.
It has also emphasized the need to develop new quality productive forces in light of local conditions and to ensure stability in businesses,
employment, and markets.
