  • and Economic Equity, AFSI, fellowship program based at the LSE.

  • AFSI is aiming to build a catalytic, values-led global community of people

  • who are committed to using collective leadership to work towards social and economic justice for all.

  • My name is Arminé Iskhanian, and I am the Executive Director of the Atlantic Fellows for Social

  • and Economic Equity Program, and a professor in the Department of Social Policy at LSE.

  • I'm incredibly pleased to be here to welcome our keynote speaker, Elif Shafak.

  • I know you've been here before.

  • And our discussant, Lili Jamaluddin, to both our online audience and everyone joining us in person.

  • Elif Shafak is an award-winning British-Turkish novelist, storyteller,

  • and an advocate for women's rights, LGBTQ plus rights, and freedom of expression.

  • She has published 21 books, 13 of which are novels, and her books have been translated to 58 languages.

  • Elif holds a PhD in political science and has taught at various universities in Turkey, the US, and the UK.

  • Elif is also a fellow and president of the Royal Society of Literature
