and Economic Equity, AFSI, fellowship program based at the LSE.
AFSI is aiming to build a catalytic, values-led global community of people
who are committed to using collective leadership to work towards social and economic justice for all.
My name is Arminé Iskhanian, and I am the Executive Director of the Atlantic Fellows for Social
and Economic Equity Program, and a professor in the Department of Social Policy at LSE.
I'm incredibly pleased to be here to welcome our keynote speaker, Elif Shafak.

I know you've been here before.
And our discussant, Lili Jamaluddin, to both our online audience and everyone joining us in person.
Elif Shafak is an award-winning British-Turkish novelist, storyteller,
and an advocate for women's rights, LGBTQ plus rights, and freedom of expression.
She has published 21 books, 13 of which are novels, and her books have been translated to 58 languages.
Elif holds a PhD in political science and has taught at various universities in Turkey, the US, and the UK.
Elif is also a fellow and president of the Royal Society of Literature
