I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today is a writer, a filmmaker, a publisher
and a visual artist whose work moves across film, television, digital media and fiction.
His first novel, The Lost Diary of Samuel Pepys,
imagine what might have happened after the most famous diary in English literature came to an end.
Well, now he returns to Restoration London with Seething Lane.
It's January 1670. London is frozen.
Samuel Pepys is still at the Navy office, still living on Seething Lane,
and still caught between public duty and private appetite.
Around him are Elizabeth Pepys, Will Hewer, Charles II, the Duke of Monmouth, Nell Gwynne, Aphra Ben,
and a city full of spies, actors, preachers and servants.
The book is an historical mystery,
but it's also a portrait of a man who notices everything and sometimes still misses what matters.
Jack Dewars, welcome to Meet the Writers.
Thank you so much for having me.
That was a great intro.
Jack, you and I have known each other for a while.
You are married to Ava Glass, who is the spy thriller writer.
Recently, well, last December, we were on the extraordinary literary cruise on the Queen Mary.
