  • Iran says it's close to an agreement that could allow commercial shipping to resume through the Strait of Hormuz.

  • Officials say the proposed deal may not involve the United States and has not yet been finalized.

  • Reporter Samir Hashmi has more from Dubai.

  • And he also said yesterday that he expects the reopening of the Strait

  • of Hormuz to be announced soon in the next few days.

  • Roughly 350,000 Haitians living in the U.S.

  • Have been stripped of their temporary legal status.

  • NPR's Adrienne Florido reports they're now vulnerable to detention

  • and deportation weeks after the Supreme Court sided with the Trump administration.

  • TPS allows people from certain countries to live and work in the U.S.

  • Because of dangerous conditions in their home countries.

  • People from Haiti have benefited from TPS since 2010. But President Trump moved to terminate their temporary status,

  • and in June the Supreme Court said he could do so.

  • That ruling has now taken effect.

  • Haitians now face being deported to a country that even the Trump administration acknowledges is very dangerous.

  • Armed gangs control much of Haiti.

  • Many of the 350,000 Haitians affected have U.S.-born children.
