  • Could the US-Israel war with Iran ripple across the entire Gulf region and affect us all?

  • The Persian Gulf is made up of some of the wealthiest and safest countries on Earth,

  • and until recently they've mostly been insulated from Middle East conflicts.

  • But that's now changing.

  • Hello and welcome to News Hour.

  • It's coming to you live from the BBC World Service studios in central London.

  • I'm Tim Franks.

  • And this is a programme dominated by day four of the war in Iran and the conflict and disruption spreading through the Middle East.

  • A day when the US and Israel have continued to bomb targets into Iran and across the country.

  • And a day when Iran has continued to fire missiles and drones at Gulf Arab countries,

  • which host US bases.

  • Part of Iran's mission, in its words, to open the gates of hell with its retaliation.

  • At the same time, Israel has continued its offensive inside Lebanon,

  • to hammer from the air and to push in from the ground in its effort to destroy the Iran-allied Hezbollah militia,

  • which continues, albeit sporadically, to fire missiles into Israeli territory.

  • We've got a revealing interview with Lebanon's deputy prime minister in a few minutes.

  • But before that, an update,

  • a rather typically freewheeling update from the US Commander in Chief himself today.
