An investigation is underway into the second fatal shooting by ICE agents in a week.
The Department of Homeland Security says agents in Maine yesterday were watching the address
of an immigrant to be deported when someone attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle.
He was shot and killed.
Ari Snyder with Maine Public Reports, it now appears the driver was not the person ICE was looking for.
A spokesperson for Senator King's office said the victim was, quote, not the target of the warrant, end quote.
The spokesperson says that information comes from the head of the agency, DHS Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen.
In an email after that, an ICE spokesperson said the shooting
happened after a driver left a house they were surveilling.
But did not definitively say if the driver was who they were looking for.
So now Maine's attorney general says his office is investigating what happened.
DHS's inspector general is also looking into this, investigating in cooperation with the FBI.
Immigration advocates say the man was legally allowed to work in the U.S.
The shooting follows last week's killing of a man during an ICE traffic stop in Houston.
