This episode explores how loosening our grip on certainty can open the door to possibilities we couldn't have planned. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • Hey, this is Dora, and welcome to Radiohead Space.

  • You know, the mind really likes to know what's coming next.

  • It likes a plan, a sense of direction, something it can hold on to.

  • And when it doesn't have that, when things feel uncertain

  • or unclear, it can get a little uncomfortable, maybe even a lot uncomfortable.

  • Because without that sense of predictability, it can feel like we're just kind of suspended,

  • somewhere in between where we've been and where we're going.

  • And the mind doesn't always know what to do with that space.

  • I've been in that space a few times in my own life.

  • One that stands out is when I decided to leave nursing and become a full-time meditation teacher.

  • I was kind of the first in my family to take a path like that.

  • There wasn't really a blueprint or a clear next step.

  • And even though it felt right, it also felt scary.

  • I remember my mind going back and forth constantly.

  • Is this the right decision?

  • Can I actually do this?

  • What if it doesn't work out?

  • And underneath all of that, there was this subtle fear of failing,

  • of having to explain why I chose something different, even though a part of me knew I wanted to try.

  • And it's interesting because when the path isn't clear, the mind doesn't just sit still.
