about conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite an ongoing ceasefire between the U.S.
And Iran, President Trump says U.S. Forces sank seven Iranian small boats as the Navy began efforts
to guide commercial ships through the strait.
Several vessels made it through yesterday.
Iran condemned the U.S. Actions and fired missiles and drones at the United Arab Emirates.
One Iranian drone sparked a fire at a major oil port in the UAE, leaving several injured.
Russia and Ukraine say separate short-term ceasefires will take effect later this week.
The suspension of attacks is to mark the anniversary of the end of World War II,
as NPR's Charles Maines reports from Moscow.
Russia's defense ministry announced the ceasefire on orders of President Vladimir Putin,
a ministry statement called on Ukraine to abide by the truce or face massive strikes on its capital, Kiev.
The suggested Russian pause in fighting will extend May 8th to May 9th,
as Russia and Ukraine hold separate events marking their shared Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
In response, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said Kiev would enter a ceasefire two days earlier
and take further actions accordingly.
It will scale back its annual military parade on Red Square,
citing fear of Ukrainian drone attacks Russian air defenses have struggled to prevent.
