And welcome to Meet the Writers, I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today has spent more than 25 years writing about relationships, families, secrets
and the sometimes dangerous distance between the people we think we know.
Since her debut novel, Playing Away, appeared in 2000, she's sold more than 6 million books in the UK.
Her work's been translated into 31 languages
and she's had two Sunday Times number one bestsellers, Lies, Lies, Lies and Just My Luck.
Her fiction has changed considerably along the way,
moving from the relationship novels associated with the early 2000s into increasingly dark psychological territory.
She's an ambassador for the National Literacy Trust and the Reading Agency,
and in 2022 was awarded an MBE for services to literature.
Her new novel, Eyes on You, follows a woman who spent much of her life trying to escape the consequences
of a terrible crime that happened when she was just 15. It's about love and obsession, family and shame,
and what happens when other people think they know your story.
Adele Parks, welcome to Meet the Writers.
Hello, how wonderful to be here.
It's so great to have you here.
You're a name that's always been on the periphery for me.
Everybody talks about Adele Parks, we've got friends in common, you're always on the bestseller list,
and suddenly here you are in front of me.
Ah, thank you.
