  So tonight's panel grows out of a joint initiative between LSE and Tsinghua University in China in Beijing to consider

  the implications of the resurgence of great power rivalry, economic nationalism for multilateral cooperation.

  Over climate and green energy, trade and growth, public health and well-being.

  And the US Center and Tsinghua Institute of International Relations have assembled two teams of scholars,

  seven on each side, to think through the challenges that geopolitical competition

  and especially U.S.-China rivalry pose for global sustainability and to explore possible strategies

  that leaders might adopt to sustain international cooperation in an age of fracture.

  So we're at the beginning of our two-year journey on this, this collaborative effort.

  We just held our own kind of small conference, working conference.

  But we wanted to use this occasion.
