Hello and welcome to NewsHour from the BBC World Service, coming live from London.
This is Owen Bennett-Jones.
Now, the Israeli military says an Iranian missile has struck a town in southern Israel.
near to a key nuclear facility, injuring more than 30 people.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said it had received no indication of damage to the facility itself.
The town of Arad in Israel has also been hit,
and we'll hear more about that in 30 minutes or so.
We've got a journalist near the scene there.
But first, the decision of Iran to attack a UK Indian Ocean military base.
It's Diago Garcia.
And that's raised important issues.
The missiles actually failed to hit the target.
But even so, Diego Garcia is nearly 4,000 kilometers from Iran.
So what actually is the range of Iran's missile capability?
And after all the statements from the US and Israel about how Iran's military capacity has been so heavily degraded...
How come Iran can still launch missiles of this kind?
Well, the UK recently said the US could use Diego Garcia,
but it seems the Iranian missile strikes came before that UK decision.
The head of the Israeli military, Eyal Zemir,
said this evening the attack shows the Iranian missile threat goes far beyond the Middle East.
