Iran is detailing a proposed agreement to temporarily reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
NPR's Hadil al-Shanchi reports Tehran has blockaded the key waterway for six months,
causing major disruptions to global oil supplies.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazim Qari Bobadi said that the proposed framework to temporarily reopen
the Strait of Hormuz did not mean that the waterway would immediately open.
In an interview published on Iranian state media,
he called the Strait a matter of Iran's national security and said that, quote, routes.
Qari Bobadi said that in the proposed agreement,
vessels would enter through Iranian waters and exit through Omani waters.
He called it a, quote, round-trip highway.
He said that this route would be temporary and that Iran and Oman will negotiate
a more permanent route within 30 to 60 days.
