President Trump says he is grateful for a Supreme Court order issued
yesterday that temporarily allows his massive White House ballroom project to continue.
The administration says the ballroom is needed for national security.
NPR's Emily Fang reports.
On his social media site, Truth Social, Trump claimed without details
that the military wanted such changes for the last 100 years.
A nonprofit chartered by Congress to protect American historic buildings has sued to stop the ballroom
for which the historic east wing of the White House was torn down last year.
The lawsuit argues that Trump by himself does not have the authority to make such big structural changes.
And two courts ruled the ballroom was likely illegal because Congress did not give it approval.
