Leave an Amazon Rating or Review for my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy! Check out the full episode: https://greatness.lnk.to/1580DM Charles Duhigg highlights research showing social connections, not prestige or wealth, most determine happiness and longevity, with double the close friends equating to 20 more years; he argues combating isolation begins with conversation skills, which historically were taught but now are overlooked, causing uncertainty. Duhigg defines "supercommunicators" as those who make us feel heard and valued, a learnable skill not innate charisma, just as babies babble to master language; by demystifying emotional intelligence as a set of competencies like reading, we can reshape our culture to raise kids purposefully developing this "emotional vocabulary". Though digital life enables detachment unlike ever before, we know integration with people truly enriches existence; prioritizing these tools could help reverse trends of loneliness and depression strangling society. • It's never too early to start shopping for the holidays at Lowe's.

  • Start decorating for the season with pre-lit Christmas trees starting at just $59.98.

  • Then check some names off your list with gifts under $50 like the Stanley Flip Straw 30-ounce Tumbler.

  • We've got tons of ways to bring Christmas home for less.

  • Holiday season starts at Lowe's in-store and online.

  • While supplies last, selection varies by location.

  • Hi, my name is Lewis Howes and welcome to the Daily Motivation Show.

  • I saw this quote about the current loneliness epidemic that's happening in the world, but specifically in the U.S.

  • This was from the, I believe, the general surgeon who said the lack of social connection.

  • Poses a significant risk for individual health and longevity.

  • Loneliness and social isolation increase the risk for premature death by 26% and 29% respectively,

  • more broadly lacking social connection.

  • Can increase the risk for premature death as much as smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day.

  • Poor or insufficient social connection is associated with increased risk of disease,

  • including 29% increased risk of heart disease and 32% increased risk of stroke.

  • Furthermore, is associated with increased risk for anxiety, depression, and dementia.

  • And I wanted to start by asking you to reflect on that.

  • And I'm curious, how can the principals and super communicators really help put an end to the loneliness

  • epidemic that we are seeing in the U.S., but also in the world?

  • It is a fantastic question and probably the most important question to be thinking about right now, right?
