Hello and welcome to Super Great Kids Stories.
Wise tales from storytellers around the world which will make you laugh and sometimes cry.
Recommended for ages 5 to 105. I'm Kim and I love stories.
This week's story is from Hawaii.
It's called Punea and Kai Ali Ali.
It's about a boy who tries to trick a shark.
Is that a good idea?
And it's told by Alton Takayama Chung.
You need to be a little bit brave because the shark is quite scary.
Well, he is a shark after all, and they do have rather a lot of teeth.
How are you, super great kids?
In the US, it's party time.
America is 250 years old, so I imagine if you're there,
you'll be celebrating with a picnic, some dancing and maybe even some fireworks.
And to add to the celebration, we have a story from the 50th US state,
Hawaii, told by the inimitable Alton Takayama Chong, who was raised in Hawaii.
I'm happy because my granddaughter Dorothy's been staying with me and she's beginning to say words.
Well, OK, probably more like sounds than words.
Sounds like shh, ooh.
And of course, her favourite sound is ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
