58 分钟Welcome to the LSE Events Podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.
Everyone, good afternoon.
Nice to see you all here in such big numbers.
It's my pleasure to welcome you to this public lecture, jointly convened by the LSE European Institute,
represented by INBEG, the Kenyarablan Centre and as part of the LSE Festival.
My name is Andrés Rodríguez Posse.
I am the Princessa of Studios Chair and the Professor of Economic Geography here at the LSE,
and I'm also the Director of the Canada Branch Centre.
This year's festival is titled with the characteristic modesty here at the LSE, How to Save the Planet.
A fine ambition though one detail tends to get lost between the communicates
and the many photo opportunities that would arise.
Saving the planet comes with a prize and a very large one for that sake.
Consider the arithmetic.
The European Investment Bank Group alone aims to mobilize one trillion euros this decade.
For those of you that can do the math that's a figure with 12 zeros and it's only part of the bill.
Public budgets cannot cover it.
So most of the capital must come from private investors
who, not unreasonably, would like to some confidence of getting it back.
Patient capital and a planet on an energy and deadline are not obvious red fellows.
