I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today is a journalist and an author
whose work has taken him deep into the machinery of power, money and corruption.
From post-Soviet states to the world's most respectable financial centres.
He's the author of Let Our Fame Be Great.
The Last Man in Russia, Moneyland and Butler to the World.
His new book is Everybody Loves Our Dollars
and it investigates the systemic failure of global efforts to combat money laundering and financial crime.
From the Marshall Islands and Latvia to casinos in Saipan, this explosive book exposes
how political horse trading and inconsistent enforcement allow dirty money to thrive.
Oliver Buller, welcome to Meet the Writers.
Thanks for having me on the show.
It's lovely to be here.
Well, you know, you and I have encountered each other often throughout the years because we're both at Hay in Wales.
Year after year, we see each other, but as ships passing in the night, we're both sort of sitting
in the green room frantically reading up on our next guest and then going off to chair people.
So it's lovely to have some time with you,
but actually to talk to you about Wales because you grew up in rural Wales.
Yeah, I'm actually from just outside Hay-on-Way.
