1 小时 26 分钟Welcome to the LSE events podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.
Welcome everyone.
I think we're about to start.
I would like to warmly welcome you to this event and to the LSE for this evening's
hybrid event titled Celebrating Hilde Himmelweit Women Scholarship and LSE Intellectual History.
My name is Miria Georgiou,
and I'm the head of the Department of Media and Communication and professor in that department.
As part of the LSE's 130th anniversary program,
we have this evening's event honoring the life and legacy of Hilde Himmelweit, a pioneering refugee scholar
and one of the very few women to hold a professorship at the school in its early history.
This is an event hosted by the Department of Media and Communication and is also co-sponsored
with the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences 2026. We have a wonderful panel of five distinguished scholars
and individuals who are going to be talking about the legacy and the work of Hilde Himmelweit and addressing
different dimensions of the questions that we're asking today in relation to women, scholars, and LSE's legacy.
So I will introduce the speakers very briefly because there's
a lot I could say about each one of them that will take the whole evening.
So please do check the website for more information if you don't know them already.
I will just introduce them in the order in which they will be speaking
to our audience here and to our online audience.
