  • The theme of the LSE Festival this year is how to save the planet.

  • There are events on all week, including on Saturday,

  • exploring what we can do to save the Earth, its people and environment from existential threats.

  • These include from the climate crisis, conflict and risks associated with AI.

  • At the end of each day,

  • which today means after this event, there are complimentary reception and drinks here in the Marshall building.

  • My name is Anna Valera, I'm a professor

  • and practice here at the LSE at the Centre for Economic Performance and the Global School of Sustainability.

  • I'm also director of the CP's growth program.

  • And I'm really, really happy to welcome our excellent speakers today.

  • We have Ed Conway, we have Catherine Thomas, we have Linda Yu and Peter Hill.

  • So I'm going to just briefly introduce the speakers in the order that we'll be hearing from them,

  • which slightly confusingly is not the order they're sitting in.
