  • Hello and welcome to Meet the Writers.

  • I'm Georgina Godwin.

  • My guests today are the winners of the 2026 Women's Prize for Fiction and the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction.

  • This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Women's Prize,

  • founded by Kate Moss and a group of writers, publishers and journalists to celebrate and champion women's writing.

  • The winners were announced on Thursday night in London at one of the highlights of the literary calendar

  • and, many would argue, the publishing party of the year.

  • I was there to celebrate with them and, the morning after,

  • sat down with this year's winners to talk about the books that captured the judge's imaginations.

  • The winner of the women's prize for non-fiction,

  • and that's Lise Giuseppe, for her book, The Finest Hotel in Kabul at People's History of Afghanistan.

  • For nearly four decades, Lisa's reported on Afghanistan.

  • In her first full-length book, she tells the country's modern history through one building

  • and the people whose lives intersected there.

  • The work draws on decades of reporting as well as fresh research

  • to tell the story of Afghanistan through the fortunes of Kabul's Intercontinental Hotel.

  • Least is said, huge congratulations to you.

  • What a party in the garden.

  • Wasn't it just lovely?

  • You could feel it.
