Iran threatened, quote, devastating responses to any miscalculation by its, quote,
enemies after Donald Trump promised the strongest ever sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
America's president has also vowed to impose penalties on countries that support Iran's economy.
The Trump administration is expected to give details of the sanctions on Monday.
China, which buys most of Iran's exported oil, said that America's threat of, quote, economic warfare would not work.
Yields on American 30-year treasuries rose, despite an attempt this week by Scott Besant,
the Treasury Secretary, to hold them down by buying the bonds.
They had briefly declined on Wednesday, after Mr Besant announced larger debt buybacks in future.
Market jitters caused the price of gold and silver to rise on Friday.
The price of Bitcoin also rose by around 6%.
America's Supreme Court allowed the construction of Mr Trump's
$400 million White House ballroom project to continue for now.
Building was supposed to stop this weekend to comply with a lower court ruling
that Congress should authorise the structure's completion.
The Trump administration appealed against that decision, arguing that the ballroom is needed for national security.
The justices are still weighing the arguments.
Mr Trump said America will temporarily increase ground beef imports without triggering the tariff
that would normally be charged.
He claimed the meat will be sold at 25% below market prices, but did not explain how.
