The 2026 World AI Conference and high-level meeting on global AI governance has kicked off in Shanghai,
bringing together political leaders, industry pioneers
and experts from around the world to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.
At the opening ceremony, Chinese President Xi Jinping offered four observations on AI development
and governance in his keynote speech.
He also announced measures to support global AI development, including providing developing
countries with opportunities in training and establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.
So what are the biggest challenges facing global AI governance?
How can countries compete in technologies while still working together on safety and governance?
And how can the world ensure that AI narrows rather than widens the global gap?
