Live from NPR News in Washington, on Korva Coleman, President Trump is flying home to the U.S.
After completing his state visit to China.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has touted Trump's trip as a historic and landmark visit.
Trump was the last American president to travel to China.
NPR's Jennifer Pack reports that visit was almost nine years ago.
President Xi says China and the U.S. Have set a new vision for,
quote, a constructive relationship of strategic stability.
That refers to President Trump's narrative of great power competition since his first term,
according to Wu Xinbo, a leading American studies scholar at Shanghai's Fudan University.
He says President Xi and Trump are now setting a new direction, a wish.
He says China sees meetings between leaders as a way to set parameters for further discussions,
which is why China has not confirmed any specific deals made yet.

The death toll in Ukraine has risen to at least 24 people following Russia's latest barrage of missile and drone strikes.
These targeted the capital, Kiev, and other areas.
NPR's Joanna Kakissis reports Ukraine's president is vowing a forceful response.
The Russian strikes turned a nine-story apartment building into rubble.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left flowers there for those killed.
He said in a video address that Russia bombed Ukraine virtually nonstop for two days to exhaust Ukraine's air defenses.
We must find countermeasures for such attacks as soon as possible, Zelensky said.
