With permission, I would like to make a statement on Israel and Palestine.
On Tuesday, the British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stood in front of his colleagues in Parliament
and spoke in deeply personal terms.
I do so as a proud British Jew, someone with the deepest gratitude to the state of Israel
for giving a home to my grandmother after she lost her husband, my grandfather,
and 60 other family members at the hands of the Nazis.
He went on to call for a new approach to Israel and its actions in the Palestinian territories.
The British government agrees that there is ethnic cleansing of Palestinians
in areas of the West Bank, perpetrated by settler terrorists.
And all too often, the Israeli government has turned a blind eye to this.
And so in this speech, Miliband announced
that the British government would sanction Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
