Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Herbst.
Both Ukrainian President Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are in Washington
today for the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham and to meet separately with President Trump.
Their presence shows just how important Graham was in shaping their relationships with Trump,
as NPR's Franco Ordonez reports.
Graham really was one of the most tenacious supporters of those two countries.
I'm not sure there's another political leader who can step in to advocate like he did for both Israel and Ukraine,
and certainly not someone who had the president's ear as Graham did.
So the fact that the leaders are going to be meeting with Trump, there's kind of a certain
symmetry that they're having to make the case themselves that Graham used to do on their behalf.
And Pierce Franco Ordonez.
Graham's funeral will be held at the National Cathedral this afternoon, and Trump is expected to speak.
It's already been a record year for cyclospora, the diarrhea-causing parasite, that's expected to sicken thousands more.
This amid deep cuts to public health.
