Hello and welcome back to the Insider from our studio in London.
I'm Edward Carr, the Economist's deputy editor.
Should a handful of men be entrusted with the world's most powerful new technology?
We know them as Dario, Demis, Elon, Mark, and Sam.
And we've put them on the cover of this week's issue as Greek gods.
But it was Dario who made the news recently,
after his AI lab Anthropic said its latest model was too dangerous to be released to the public.
In the hands of the wrong people, it could threaten critical infrastructure.
What does this Mythos moment mean for how governments will control AI?
With me to discuss this Alex Hern, our AI writer and host of The Inside Tech show.
John Prideaux, our US editor and host of Checks and Balances podcast.
And making his Insider debut is Corbin Duncan, who writes about lots of things including Chinese AI.
And down the line from New York is Zanny Minton Beddoes, our editor-in-chief.
So thanks very much to you for being here with us.
There are a number of things I want to get to today.
The first is, why is everybody making such a fuss about Mythos?
The second is, how will the Trump administration and other governments attempt to rein in the AI companies?
And then lastly, what does all this mean for the future of AI itself?
But before we start, I should say that Anthropic is the sponsor of Insider,
and that they don't have any say over the making of this show,
