单集简介 ...

The US and Iran have agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire, hours after President Trump threatened that "a whole civilisation” would die if the Strait of Hormuz did not reopen. Iran has agreed to open the key shipping route while the US stops its strikes— but it’s also put forward a 10-point plan with several other demands, including compensation for the damage caused by the war. Pakistan has been acting as a mediator between the two countries and it will host talks between the US and Iran this Friday - so what can we expect from the negotiations? In this episode we look at the terms of this ceasefire, what it means for the countries involved in the conflict and what could happen next. • This BBC podcast is supported by ads outside the UK.

  • After more than a month of attacks in the US-Israel war with Iran, things got even more tense in the last few days.

  • President Donald Trump set a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

  • That 's the narrow stretch of water between Iran,

  • the UAE and Oman, which has a big influence on the global economy because it 's a key shipping route.

  • It's been a huge talking point in this war.

  • And it wasn't just a deadline to reopen the strait from Trump.

  • He posted on social saying a whole civilization will die tonight,

  • never to be brought back again unless a deal was reached.

  • People were just about processing those words.

  • It's absolute madness.

  • Disturbing.

  • I agree with Trump.

  • I like him.

  • Think the man's doing the right thing.

  • According to me, it's a war crime.

  • And then a few hours later, 90 minutes before that threat came into force, both sides seemed to step back a bit.

  • And agreed a two-week ceasefire deal, which was mediated by Pakistan.

  • And I know what you're thinking, but what does that actually mean?

  • What's changed now and what could happen next?
