Hi, this is Dora, and you are now listening to Radio Headspace.
So one question I hear quite often from people learning meditation is this.
When will I know if it's working?
And it's an understandable question.
In many areas of life, we're used to measuring progress.
We finish a project.
We reach a milestone.
We check something off the list.
And naturally, people assume meditation should work the same way.
That, after enough practice, we'll arrive at some final destination
where the mind is calm, clear, and perfectly peaceful.
But meditation tends to unfold a little differently than that.
What many of us discover is that meditation isn't really about reaching an endpoint.
It's more like a journey.
A journey of getting to know the mind.
Some days the mind feels spacious and calm.
Other days it feels busy, restless, and emotional.
And the practice isn't about forcing the mind into one particular state.
It's about learning to meet whatever is there with awareness and compassion.
In many ways, the mind is more like a river than a destination.
