A key Senate race in Michigan remains too close to call,
with votes still being counted in a closely watched Democratic primary.
Across the country, Tuesday's elections delivered victories for establishment Democrats, progressive candidates,
and several Republicans backed by President Trump.
NPR's Sage Miller reports the results underscored divisions within both parties
while setting the stage for the fall midterms.
Progressive Democrats scored another win this election cycle when voters
in Michigan's 7th Congressional District picked Will Lawrence as their nominee.
Democrats hoped to flip the seat away from first-time Republican Congressman Tom Barrett.
But establishment Democrats won in Missouri and Virginia.
Missouri Congressman Wesley Bell beat progressive former Congresswoman Cori Bush.
Despite a record low approval rating, Trump still has a strong grip on his party.
The Trump-backed candidate won the Republican nomination in a congressional race in Washington state,
and Trump's candidates also won in two races for governor in Kansas and Michigan.
