1 小时 41 分钟Welcome to the LSE events podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.
So good evening and welcome.
For those who don't know me, my name is Larry Kramer, and I'm the president and vice chancellor here at LSE.
And it 's my pleasure and honor to welcome you to this very special event,
co-hosted by the Grantham Institute, the Global School of Sustainability,
and the Suntory and Toyota International Centers for Economic and Related Disciplines,
which around here is known as Stickard.
Now, I'm going to say I'm a materialist, which used to drive my wife crazy.
She was very spiritual by nature, so I don't usually believe in things like fate.
But then sometimes you do just have to wonder.
Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day.
And by coincidence, it is also Professor Lord Nicholas Stern's birthday.
It is, in fact, his 80th birthday, which seems impossible and has me wondering whether Nick is,
in fact, one of those immortal warriors competing for the prize in Highlander.
Okay.
Ooh, I would head there.
That may be too obscure a reference for those who don't indulge in cheesy sci-fi as I do.
In any event, given his life's work, one could hardly think of a better day to celebrate Nick than Earth Day,
nor a better day to celebrate the Earth than Nick's birthday.
