  • Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston.

  • President Trump says the U.S.

  • Has paused a possible military strike against Iran.

  • In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran and other countries in the region

  • asked Washington to hold off because the outlines of a deal had been reached.

  • NPR's Frank Langford reports from Tel Aviv.

  • President Trump wrote on social media Saturday night.

  • That the U.S.

  • Was, quote, locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, end quote.

  • But then he said Iran and other Middle Eastern countries had asked him to hold off,

  • subject to rapidly making a deal, one that would include the immediate

  • and total reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat.

  • Mayor, a semi-official news agency sponsored by the Iranian government,

  • dismissed Trump's claims as, quote, simply a new lie, citing unnamed Iranian military officials.
