  • Welcome to the LSE events podcast by the London School of Economics and Political Science.

  • Get ready to hear from some of the most influential international figures in the social sciences.

  • Hi, good evening everyone.

  • Welcome.

  • Welcome to the LSE.

  • Welcome to this hybrid event.

  • My name is Professor Coretta Phillips and I'm a Professor of Criminology and Social Policy here at the LSE.

  • So pleased to welcome our panel and to all of you.

  • It's great to have such a large audience.

  • And so the event's entitled Mass Media, Justice and Me, A Victim's Perspective.

  • It's been organised by the LSE Law School.

  • I'd like to thank in advance our online audience and all of you for joining us today.

  • It's fantastic to see so many of you.

  • Before I introduce our panellists more fully, there are just a few housekeeping matters to attend to.

  • Most obviously, if there 's a fire alarm, then we exit the building through the staircase

  • and we attend the fire assembly point.

  • Which is opposite this building on the corner of Lincoln's Inn Fields.

  • A reminder that the event is being recorded.

  • It will be made available as a podcast, subject to there being no technical difficulties.

  • At this point, please, can I ask everyone to turn their mobile phones off or onto silent,
