Hello and welcome to NewsHour from the BBC World Service.
Coming to you live from London, I'm Rajini Vaidyanathan.
Almost three weeks into the war, and as the conflict escalates with more attacks on energy infrastructure,
are we starting to see cracks appearing between America and Israel when it comes to their joint operations against Iran?
Gas prices surged on Thursday morning after an attack on Iran's South Pars gas field,
and then a retaliatory strike by Iran on the Ras Lafan gas complex in Qatar.
Well, the strike on Iran was carried out by Israel, but President Trump says he knew nothing about the strike.
Posting on his True Social platform, he said Israel would not attack the field again
unless Iran unwisely decides to attack another innocent nation.
Well, in the last few hours, the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has been speaking,
and he said that the Pentagon would go to Congress to seek funding for the Iran war.
He also directly addressed the American people, seeking to assure them
that America would not be in this conflict for years.
The media here, not all of it, but much of it, wants you to think.
just 19 days into this conflict that we're somehow spinning toward an endless abyss
or a forever war or a quagmire.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Hear it from me, one of hundreds of thousands who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan,
who watched previous foolish politicians. like Bush, Obama and Biden, squander American credibility.
This is not those wars.
