The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating why a cargo plane overshot
the runway at Miami International Airport yesterday, leaving five people dead.
The 767 operated by Amazon struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway.
Here's NPR's Ping Huang.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz says a cargo plane overran the runway.
It came to rest at a field adjacent to the airport.
At this time, we can confirm that we have at least five deceased individuals.
And we have multiple individuals that were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries.
Video posted on social media shows the Boeing 767 with its tail over the airport's
fence and thick black smoke rising from the aircraft.
It's unclear so far what caused the crash,
though the National Transportation Safety Board says they're sending a team to the site and launching an investigation.
