I'm your captain, Myra Anubi, and on this ship, we travel the world looking for ways to make our planet a better place.
Today, we're finding out about ways to help LGBT people, a huge community that's often on the margins of society.
There will be drag queens, feather boas, painting nails, which is wonderful.
I think of all the different kinds of activities for our community,
very different from what you usually find in other care homes.
We'll hear about two simple but impactful ideas in Kenya and Spain that are creating safer spaces for this community.
LGBT.
It's a collective term for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer.
It's a big community globally.
An IPSO survey of 30 countries suggests 9% of adults identify as LGBT.
But truthfully, it's really impossible to know the exact numbers globally.
Why?
Well, mainly because in many parts of the world it 's not safe to be open about your sexuality and LGBT people are constantly
exposed to violence, stigma, abuse and discrimination.
