Hello and welcome to Meet the Writers.
I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today is a Korean-American writer and literary agent.
Her first book, Inferno, was a remarkable memoir about motherhood, postpartum psychosis and recovery.
She was a finalist for the 2020 Sunday Times Young Writer Award and shortlisted for the Jalak Prize.
Her new book, The Devoted, is her first novel, set in Hong Kong's criminal underworld,
where family, power and revenge shape every decision.
Catherine Cho, welcome to Meet the Writers.
Thanks so much for having me.
We are talking on possibly the hottest day of the year.
Yes, definitely.
But luckily we have air con, so we can relax a little bit here.
And I wonder, does it ever get very cold in Kentucky?
That's where you grew up, right?
I did.
Actually, Kentucky has four distinct seasons.
So the summers would be very hot, but we'd also have snow.
So I feel like the seasons were very distinct there.
I mean, so were your identities, I'm assuming,
because you're growing up in Kentucky, but you're from a Korean household.
