The yield on American 30-year Treasuries rose to 5.6%, its highest in almost a quarter of a century.
Yields on 10-year bonds climbed to 5.27%, its highest since 2007. Rising oil prices, stubborn inflation
and mounting government debt have pushed up borrowing costs, prompting a week-long sell-off.
That is despite America's Treasury committing to ramp up its bond buyback scheme.

America's Supreme Court allowed Mr Trump, for now,
to continue deporting migrants to countries other than their own at short notice.
This month, an appeals court blocked such, quote, third country removals, ruling that migrants
must have a meaningful opportunity to contest the destination, for instance, out of fear of persecution upon arrival.
The court will consider the Trump administration's appeal against the decision in December.
Andy Burnham said he would downgrade Britain's triple lock on state pension increases to a double lock.
From April 2030, pensions will rise each year by the highest of either consumer price inflation or 2.5%.
Average earnings growth will no longer be considered.
The savings will help fund improvements to social care, Britain's Prime Minister said.
