The two countries that are going to be central to any efforts to end the war came together
for a rare meeting at the White House yesterday.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted ambassadors from Israel and Lebanon,
the first time that they 've had direct communication since the early 90s.
Israel is fighting Iran-aligned Hezbollah, a militia group based in Lebanon.
It's a conflict that was reignited after the war with Iran began.
In his statement, Rubio characterized the day as the start of something larger.
This is a process, not an event.
This is more than just one day.
This will take time.
But we believe it is worth this endeavor, and it's a historic gathering that we hope to build on.
