Iran is setting a defiant tone a day ahead of the U.S.
Announcing new economic sanctions against it.
The new Iranian security chief said that any country that joins President
Trump's new efforts would be considered an enemy.
NPR's Hadil al-Shalshi reports.
The head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council said that Iran would retaliate in a, quote,
seismic manner to President Trump's new economic sanctions and that Iran would target any country assisting the U.S.
In an interview that aired on state TV, Mohsen Rezaei said that Iran would target
tankers on oil shipping routes alternate to the Strait of Hormuz out of the Persian.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant is expected to announce new aggressive sanctions on Iran on Monday,
which President Trump has called Economic D-Day.
Iran is already suffering from distressing economic circumstances that began before the war with the U.S.
And Israel broke out in February.
