单集简介 ...

When Ceri Menai-Davis’ five year old son Hugh was diagnosed with cancer, his whole family’s life was transformed. The emotional toll was unimaginable, but alongside that came myriad other hidden costs, and he soon found there was no support available. So why does the UK not help families going through this most devastating moment? And could a new law, championed by Ceri, change that? 单集文稿 ...

  • From the Times and the Sunday Times, this is the story.

  • I'm Manveen Rana.

  • He was five and the very youngest in his class and just started school

  • and come towards the October half term he's getting a bit tired and going off his food slightly.

  • For Kerry Menear Davies, this wasn't a worry.

  • His bouncy little five-year-old Hugh was probably just adjusting to his first year at primary school.

  • So he arranged some treats for half term.

  • They played golf together on a driving range.

  • Hugh already had quite the swing.

  • But nothing seemed to help.

  • And he started complaining of a tummy pain, a tummy ache.

  • You know, as a parent, you don't think anything of it,

  • you think maybe he's got a gastro bug.

  • And it got progressively worse.

  • And then Frances, my wife, phoned the doctors.

  • From the doctors, Frances and Hugh were sent to the hospital for tests

  • that went on late into the night.

  • Kerry was looking after their youngest son at home.

  • Went to sleep that night and had a text message at 3:00 in the morning, I remember.

  • Just my phone beeping from my wife saying, "Are you still up? Can you give me a call?"
