Leave an Amazon Rating or Review for my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy! Check out the full episode: https://greatness.lnk.to/1959DM Who did you have to be as a kid to get your parents' love? Aaron Doughty asks Lewis that question and the whole conversation cracks open from there. He explains why "I'm a people pleaser" is a lie you've been telling yourself. It's not who you are. It's a pattern you built to survive your childhood. Aaron gets specific about his own story, an ex-stepmom, a house where keeping the peace felt like life or death, and how that turned into a lifelong habit of absorbing other people's tension as his own. He names exactly who people pleasers attract without realizing it.  Takers. People who are impossible to please. People you feel responsible for fixing. Then he goes somewhere most conversations about boundaries never go, into the anger you've been suppressing under all that niceness, and why touching that anger is the actual doorway to freedom. • Hi, my name is Lewis Howes and welcome to the Daily Motivation Show.

  • One of the strongest things that I think actually holds us back is this one simple question right here.

  • Who did you have to be as a kid to receive mom or dad's love?

  • Because whoever you had to be as a kid becomes

  • the role and the identity that you live within as a survival mechanism in order to get by.

  • So one of the things I think that makes people more in an energy of attachment

  • and not magnetic is that there's an attachment to an old identity of who they had to be.

  • That strategy was actually really effective because it helped you survive within your family dynamics.

  • When you're 8, 9, 12, 16, you have to...

  • Belong in order to survive yes you had to simply perform if your parents needed

  • you to in order for them to be happy with you or give you food and shelter

  • yeah like it was a it was a coping mechanism in some ways right exactly and then it just became

  • a identity into adulthood it's not like we just let it go right away yeah that's the challenge
