  • Hi.

  • Welcome back to eat your cuz podcast.

  • I'm Jisoo.

  • I'm Crystal.

  • And I'm James.

  • This week, we brought James back on because we wanted to talk about something that's a little bit more career focused.

  • And James is a software engineer, and there's a ton of them in the Bay Area.

  • Yeah, I feel like maybe a quarter to a third of our friends are software engineers.

  • Definitely, which is pretty crazy considering how many different occupations there are.

  • But software engineer is definitely a huge, huge goal that many people have, which you could definitely see in the rise of computer science majors in schools, especially.

  • Since the Bay Area is so stem focused.

  • It's a very common path for people to take, but it's nice because there's a lot of different focuses and specialties within computer science.

  • Yeah.

  • So, James, why did you choose to study computer science in college?

  • So in high school, I noticed that I was pretty quick with math, but I didn't really have a passion for any other specific field at the time when I was applying for colleges.

  • So I kind of looked at it like, going into cs is pretty good for people who can think logically, have a good foundation in math, and have good problem solving skills.

  • And it's also kind of a lucrative field right now.

  • Like, it's in Silicon Valley.

  • It's probably one of the higher paying occupations.

  • So I kind of just went with it as sort of a safety net.
