It’s been impossible to have a conversation in the past few weeks without the word Coronavirus - and rightfully so, COVID-19 has been causing panic (and mass TP shortages) worldwide with its high contagion factor. Today we discuss the social impact of the fast-spreading virus. What’s worse, the fear-mongering on social media, the lack of adequate government response, or the rampant increase in xenophobic incidents?Support the Show.Follow us on social media @eatyourcrustpod

  • Hi.

  • Welcome back to eat your crust podcast.

  • I'm Crystal.

  • I'm Jisoo.

  • I'm Wally.

  • You might recognize today's guests from a few episodes back.

  • One of our first ones.

  • I think that episode was really well received, actually, that was our mental health episode, and I think we covered a lot of good, sensitive topics, shared our personal journeys.

  • So go check that out if you haven't yet, we'll link it down below.

  • I'm sure everyone is all aware of the kind of international emergency going on with the coronavirus.

  • Yeah, I think it's causing a lot of paranoia around, just, like, people in general, different communities.

  • I think as of right now, the US is still a little lagging on this paranoia, I guess.

  • I think people as a community are just trying to be like, oh, no, it's not that bad.

  • We barely have any cases.

  • But then when you read a little more about it, you're like, wait, I think we're, like, about to be just as bad as some of the, like, at least mildly infected countries, if not worse, because we're one of the biggest countries population wise.

  • Yeah, that's true.

  • I feel like it felt so much more serious when the first death happened from coronavirus in the US over the weekend.

  • And, yeah, it's a little bit scary.

  • Like, before that, we were saying, oh, there's 30 cases or so in the US.

  • No one has died yet.
