Hi.
Welcome back to eat your crest podcast.
I'm Jisoo.
I'm Crystal.
I'm Yane.
And I'm Jessica.
So today, our two guests have actually been on the podcast.
Before, Jessica was on the med school episode with her boyfriend, and Yane was on the episode about TikTok and streaming and all that.
So the reason why we invited them this week is because they're both long time K pop fans, and we thought we would kind of talk about, like, not just K pop as, like, entertainment, but also the social impact of it, how it's been affecting our lives as Asian Americans as well.
So let's kick this off by going around and sharing our journey into K pop and maybe who our favorite groups are.
I'll start it off.
So I would say my personal K pop journey.
I mean, I'm korean, so I grew up listening to a lot of korean music with my parents, and pretty much the music that my parents listened to weren't really, like, idol music and, like, the stereotypical K pop, but it was more like seventies, eighties, nineties ballads and stuff.
And my first, like, foray into the K pop world was this tongbang shingi song called Rising sun, where it's pretty much, like, literal screamo and, like, heavy metal and them, like, crying in the background.
Oh, my God.
Some sort of, like, social criticism, basically.
And I remember thinking this is literal garbage noise that's, like, hurting my ears, but it's so addicting.
And I think from then on, I started to kind of, like, follow the big songs.
And I would say big Bang was, like, my first real eye opener from then on, just whatever new guy group that came on where I liked their music, I kind of was a big fan of.
So, like, 02:00 p.m.
