Welcome back to eat your crust podcast.
I'm Crystal.
I'm Jisoo.
And I'm Hyrule.
So this week we have Hyrule on again, and she was a guest on the episode about religion a few weeks ago.
So welcome back, Hyrule.
Hey, guys, thanks so much for having me on.
I guess before we deep dive into this, instead of three facts about myself, I will provide you with some disclaimers.
So, first of all, I am east asian.
I grew up upper middle class, and I also don't have a thorough education on race and politics, and I didn't study it in school.
But I hope from that angle, though, that what we talk about today can be more of approachable and relatable take on how, like, if you're like me, maybe then you grew up in similar circumstances, have a similar education, how you can do something and get started even if you don't feel super well equipped to do it.
So the reason why we start off with these kinds of disclaimers is today we wanted to talk about how we can start uncomfortable conversations, especially about racism and black lives matters with people around us who can be our parents or our friends, just in our immediate social circle.
I think as Asian Americans, we kind of have won the privilege to turn away from these issues when we don't want to see it on our social media posts.
But as POC, I think we have the obligation to talk about these issues and kind of reeducate people around us and more importantly, reeducate ourselves and kind of call ourselves out as well.
So let's talk a little bit about what's been kind of happening in the news recently.
There's been, like, so many things that have been happening, and one of the biggest things has been this, like, slew of unjust events happening to the black community, one of the most recent ones being George Floyd getting murdered by a cop.
And luckily it was caught on camera.
And then that spurred this giant social media uproar, if you will.
Yeah.
