Hi.
Welcome back to eat your crust podcast.
I'm Jisoo.
And I'm Crystal.
So today's topic is a kind of interesting and I guess a little bit more conceptual one.
Today, Crystal and I wanted to talk about navigating conversations, whether it's with close friends or bigger friend groups or family or even conversations at the workplace.
I feel like there's such a different range of conversations that take place in our everyday lives, and we wanted to kind of dissect and analyze, like, the differences that we experience, why they exist, and our personal comfort levels with all of these different types of conversations.
Yeah, I think we were just talking about how I don't really like small talk.
This conversation just happened about conversations.
I think Jisoo also mentioned to me that she was reading a book, and the dialogue between the characters was actually, like, conversational topics that had nothing to do with the plot, and she was, like, shook.
True.
So that book that I was talking about was conversations with friends, literally.
That's the title by Sally Rooney, who is the author of normal people.
And, yeah, it was interesting because I feel like usually dialogue and books tend to revolve around, like, plot points or serves as, like, a vessel for a new plot introduction or something like that.
It's like this conversation between these two people is supposed to mean something or take them to the next level, but in that particular book, they actually discuss a lot of political ideologies or the characters personal thoughts of how a society should be shaped, which kind of made me wonder, like, wow, these fictional characters are having such interesting and deep conversations, and it made me take another look at, like, my conversations with my friends as well.
But, Crystal, what you said about you disliking small talk, I feel like it's the perfect way to kind of open up this episode because I personally enjoy small talk.
But I want to hear, like, your reasons on why you dislike small talk.
It's just so filler to me also.
I don't know.
I think I'm kind of bad at small talk, I guess.
